Otoplasty (Ear Surgery) in Houston, TX

When it comes to your overall appearance, every part of your face plays a role in your overall facial symmetry. Even a single abnormality can have a dramatic impact on the appearance of your face. Dr. German Newall, a board-certified plastic surgeon, offers otoplasty surgery to patients in Houston and the surrounding areas of Post Oak, Sugar Land, and Katy.

What is Otoplasty (Ear Surgery)?

Otoplasty, also known as ear surgery, is performed to alter the shape and size of the ears; or, most commonly, to correct protruding ears by positioning them closer to the head. Otoplasty is a very routine procedure that is performed on both adults and children. Ear surgery is considered extremely safe and straightforward and can benefit children socially, even reducing the chances of bullying as they go through school.

How is Otoplasty Performed?

During the surgery, Dr. Newall makes an incision behind the ear through which he can re-sculpt the cartilage. Sutures are then put in place to help the ear hold its shape. This procedure can be performed using local anesthesia. There are a variety of reasons why ear surgery would be considered, and the surgical technique may vary depending on the aesthetic need. Most patients can return to work or school in about a week, and gradually begin resuming normal activities according to the recovery guidelines set by Dr. Newall.

Am I a Good Candidate for Otoplasty?

Though children as young as six may undergo this procedure, Dr. Newall prefers for his otoplasty patients to be at least 14 years of age. Otoplasty can be performed on one or both ears. Adults or children who are good candidates to undergo ear surgery include those who are in good overall health and do not have untreated or chronic ear infections.

Where will the procedure be performed?

Otoplasty surgery is performed at our award-winning ACPS, The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery (ACPS), which is the largest private plastic surgery center in Texas. The ACPS exceeds accepted standards for private surgical facilities and is licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services. The ACPS offers four surgical suites, pre-operative consultation suites, and seven comfortable post-operative recovery suites, all staffed with medical professionals handpicked by our surgeons.
